User Guide – How to Use Digital Planner Stickers the Easy Way!

Digital Planning | 0 comments

Are you looking for a guide on how to use digital planner stickers and import them in your digital planner? This tutorial is not app-specific and should apply no matter what your preferred digital planning app is. This method will work whether you use NoteShelf, GoodNotes, ZoomNotes, Xodo, or Notability.

So, What are Digital Planner Stickers?

A digital planner sticker is a graphic designed to mimic a real sticker.

There are two types of digital planner stickers. Individual PNG files, and app-specific files with all the stickers already saved onto pages. A popular one you may have heard of is GoodNotes sticker book.

My personal favorite are the individual PNG files…they are fast, easy, and you can search stickers by name!

How to Use Digital Planner Stickers with your Planner

Download the files

You will first download the files onto your tablet or computer. You should have an email receipt from the shop you purchased from with instructions on how to access your purchased files.

Unzip & open the file folders

Locate where your files are downloaded. Usually they will be delivered in a compressed Zip file, due to the large file size of high quality PNG graphics. I usually do this on my MacBook computer, because all my files sync via iCloud and are available on all of my Apple devices that I am signed into.

When you open the zip file, you will see the stickers. Our stickers are packaged into separate folders by color, and each sticker has a semantic name (ie a sticker that says “Monday” will have a file name of “monday.png”).

Drag & Drop stickers into your digital planner

*These instructions are iPad iOS 11 or higher specific.
Open your planner to the page you want to add a sticker to.
Open up Files in split screen and navigate to the folder with your PNG sticker files.
Use your stylus pencil to click on the sticker you want, then drag it onto your planner.
How To Add Digital Stickers To Your Digital Planner On Ipad

Drag the Files window on top of your planner – or drag the window to a split screen next to your planner

(I prefer the floating window because my planner stays full size, and I can hide the window when I don’t need it, but bring it back quickly when I want to add another sticker)

How To Use Digital Planner Stickers By Searching And Adding Them To Your Digital Planner On Ipad

Search by keyword to find the sticker you need

You can browse the stickers by color or search by keyword. Type your keyword into the search form and it will filter all the stickers from all the colors for that word!

Why We Prefer this Method

A huge benefit of this method is it will not bog down your digital planner app with huge “books” full of stickers. Some apps begin to perform more slowly the more content they have in them. Digital stickers are fun, but they can be very large files! Do you really need to keep all 3000 stickers you just downloaded in another book inside your planner app, when the reality is you will only use a fraction of those stickers in your daily journaling?

It’s much faster! You can just search for the sticker you want using the file browser, instead of browsing through pages and pages of stickers. If you still prefer the sticker book method, you can create your own sticker book. Just create a blank notebook in your planner app and use this method to add your favorite stickers to it!
